NCG wins first TCL 7-A-Side cricket tournament

11/16/2009
Author: Prudhvi Reddy

It was a perfect weekend with 70F to play cricket. Total four teams participated in the tournament. NCA & NCG with the highest points ended up into the finals on sunday.

NCA won the toss and decided to field first. NCA started of well with great bowling spells from aniket and good intelligent bowling from srimanth restricting NCG for 20 for 2 in 4 overs with Kalyan and prudhvi back in the hut cheaply, then it was upto Kishore who took a great initiative to step up the tempo and score quick fire 25 runs with intellectual hitting in gaps. Rohan started off well with rotating the strike to inform kishore and later increased the run rate by hitting boundaries in gaps. Sunny rotated the strike well, by getting rohan in strike when he was on song. Bimal came in at the downfall on sunny and scored fast runs on the offside to make the total to a decent 84 off ten overs. This score sounded really well in NCA's favor at the end of their bowling spells considering the 7 a side pattern in the tournament.

It was NCG's turn to Bowl, starting of with sunny who bowled a brilliant first over which costed a miser 3 runs of the first over which was the best first over and the second best over after aniket's 2 runs of the over in the same match. Rohan, Kishore and Mayank followed sunny to restrict NCA to a miser 32 of 4 overs and then came bimal's brilliant spell; in the first over Bimal took Arun stumped and minimizing score to 38 of 5 overs leaving behind 47 runs to score of just 5 overs with more then 9 runs to score per over. Kishore came in and bowled a tidy spell with Srimanth and Jaideep on strike and restricted NCA to 47 for 1 at the end of 6 overs with 38 runs to score of the last 4 overs. Bimal on song came into the attack with dangerous srimanth facing him, he did not have an answer to bimal's slider which came in sharply and dragged it onto the stumps to leave NCA in a misery. Rohan followed up Bimal with brilliant Inswingers restricting NCA to 60 for 3 at the end of 8 overs. Requiring 25 off 2 overs kishore turned to his most experienced player sunny who bowled shot pitch bowl first up to get Akshay who got a top edge to keeper. Sunny did the unexpected length and short pitch stuff to aniket and gave just 6 off the over leaving NCA to get 19 off the last over. Kalyan got the last over; who finished the dangerous aniket who lofted the ball straight to Mid-off where sunny took a decent running catch. Kalyan just gave 4 runs off the last over, which leaves NCA 14 runs behind at the end of the match. NCG had a well deserved victory at the end of season for the hard work they put in. Great End of the season victory for NCG to cherish for their efforts.

It was definitely a great dream run for NCG with a team of 3 members in a room who decided to form a team; to a team with a title this day. I am really happy to be a part of this team where you have every right to be what you are.

Rohan Mohite stars in a Thrilling win against GCC

8/18/2009
Author: Siraj Ahmed

Scintillating all round performance from Rohan helped NCG register a thrilling win over GCC.

GCC won the toss and elected to bat. Ritesh and Dharmesh opened for GCC and Prudhvi and Anish were handed the new ball for NCG. Prudhvi struggled for control initially and contributed some extras. But once the bowlers found their rhythm, the batsmen found the going a bit difficult. Anish spotted that Dharmesh was vulnerable on anything bowled around his legs and nailed him with one that was full and straight. The dangerous Sandeep was the next man in for GCC. Sunny replaced Anish and kept the proceedings tight, until Ritesh broke the shackles by stepping out and carting Sunny over mid-on for a six. NCG made a tactical bowling change with Nandakishore replacing Prudhvi. Sandeep tried to cart Nanda out of the ground, but ended up top edging to point into the safe hands of Siraj. Going into the first break GCC were in a decent position at 43/2. Good comeback from NCG considering that GCC were 28/0 after 5 overs.

Viren who was the highest scorer for GCC in their last match against NCG joined a set-Ritesh at the crease. Both the batsmen tried to step up the tempo. Bimal was brought into the attack, but Viren took the attack to NCG. Prudhvi dropped a difficult chance at Mid-on off Bimal. To add insult to injury the ball was tipped over for a six. Bimal did not have luck going his way as the batsmen just managed to evade the fielders when taking the aerial root. Bimal was hit for 24 off his 3 overs. Rohan was introduced at the other end and immediately cleaned up Ritesh with a brilliant Yorker. The GCC skipper struggled his way to 22 runs. Mikhil was the next batsmen to go. Another searing Yorker to which the batsman had no clue. Yogesh joined Viren at the crease and kept the scoreboard ticking. NCG went into the break at 78/4 with the dangerous Viren still at the crease.

Kalyan took a sensation catch at Cover to dismiss Yogesh off Rohan. The ball was onto him in a flash and he did well to latch onto it. Just when GCC were looking towards a 150+ target, Rohan bowled Viren with a peach of a delivery. With the danger man gone, the GCC tail did not last longer. Kalyan cleaned up Roshan and with a brilliant Yorker. Anish came back to end Paresh’s resistance by disturbing his stumps. The kid, Darshan was caught at covers by Sunny off Kalyan. Sunny hurt himself taking the catch and had to walk off the field. Tarpan, the last man was run out the very next ball. GCC innings folded up at 128 off 24 overs. Viren top-scored again with 40 runs for GCC. Rohan was the pick of the bowlers with figures of 4/10. Anish and Kalyan provided excellent support with figures of 2/11 and 2/10.

With Kishore injured, Bimal and Sunny were the makeshift openers for NCA. They started with a boom, taking the attack to GCC opening bowlers Paresh and Sandeep. Sunny had a flight to catch and played some neat strokes before he was run out. Bimal drove straight back at Paresh and the bowler clipped the bails and caught Sunny short. The openers gave a quick start of 30 runs in 4 overs. Kalyan joined Bimal at the crease. Bimal was at his aggressive best and raced onto 16 runs off 12 balls. But he tried one shot too many, and was caught by Piyush off the bowling of Sandeep. Siraj was the next batsman at the crease. Both batsman preferred caution over aggression and focused on keeping the scoreboard ticking without losing any wickets.

NCG lost two quick wickets on either side of the break. Kalyan nicked left-arm spinner Viren to wicket keeper Roshan just before the break. Immediately after the break, Siraj tried turning a Mikhil delivery to leg side. But the ball took the edge and was caught by Ritesh at point. Rakesh did not last longer and chipped a simple return catch to Mikhil. Mikhil turned the match around with couple of quick wickets and suddenly NCG were in a spot of bother. Anish and Rohan set about repairing the damage, and did it with style. Both batsmen kept the scoreboard ticking by some brilliant stroke play and breath-taking running between the wickets. The pair took NCG from a precarious 50/5 to 78/5 at the second break. Sandeep split his finger trying to stop a flick from Anish and had to be rushed to the hospital. He had completed his bowling spell though, with figures of 1/18. NCG still needed about 54 runs at run a ball to win the match at the final break.

Anish lost a bit of concentration after the break and was bowled by Tarpan. Prudhvi, was the next batsmen in. He tried to go for some quick runs and was caught in the deep off the bowling of Viren. Rohan was cool and composed, and found an excellent ally in Nanda. Both batsmen coolly finished the match with some sensible batting. Rohan expedited the end with a brilliant six. Nanda had some lovely shots on the off-side and gave excellent support to coast NCG safely to the target. Rohan was unbeaten on 34 and sealed off the match in style.

Ice-man Rohan was declared man of the match for his brilliant all round effort with the bat and the ball. He scored 34 n.o. and took 4/10 in his spell of 5 overs.

NCG registers a big win against NCA

7/30/2009
Author: Siraj Ahmed

Sensational bowling performances from Bimal and Rohan and brilliant all round effort from Sunny helped NCG register a big win against NCA

NCA won the toss and elected to bat. Arun and Sujay opened for NCA against Kishore who started proceedings for NCG. The experiment to hand the new ball to Kishore did not prove fruitful as he had a bit of struggle to gain control over the swing. Kishore and Prudhvi conceded some extras. Just when it looked like Sujay was looking to capitalize on the wayward bowling, NCG made a tactical bowling change with Sunny replacing Kishore. Sunny took a stupenduous return catch to send the dangerous Sujay back to the Pavilion. Considering that Sujay had made a big score in the earlier match, it was a big wicket for NCG. Srinivas joined arun at the crease and both batsmen struggled against tight bowling from Sunny and a settled Prudhvi. Prudhuvi's brilliant bowling was rewarded when Srinivas chipped him straight to Rakesh at midwicket who took a smart catch. NCA captain Srimanth joined Arun at the crease and immediately showcased his attacking intentions. Srimanth has some luck going his way as Siraj could only get his figertips to a hard chance at point, off the bowling of Sunny. NCA went into the first break at 53/2 thanks to the extras.

Just when NCA looked like heading for a good score, Bimal produced a outstanding delivery to uproot Srimanth's stumps. Srimanth had no clue against a Bimal special that deceived him in the flight and turned substantially to knock his middle and leg stump. Aniket came to the crease but he was up against a charged up Bimal who produced another peach of a delivery to shatter his stumps. With both the batsmans back in the pavilion, lot of responsibility rested on Arun and Akshay. Bimal was not finished yet, and came back to trap Arun LBW. Three big wickets from Bimal turned the match in NCG's favor. Rohan was introduced from the other end. Akshay tried to dominate proceedings, but chipped Rohan straight to Siraj at short midwicket, who took the catch at the second attempt. NCA went into the second break struggling at 68/6 thanks to brilliant effort from Bimal.

Hitesh and Jaideep tried to bring some respectability to the NCA score, but a brilliant tumbling catch from Sunny running backwards at point, put an end to Jaideep's innings. Rohan had bowled a wonderful delivery to induce the top edge from the southpaw, which was sensationally taken by Sunny. Rohan kept bowling brilliantly and was duly rewarded when Hitesh and Shriram has no clue to his accurate and fast Yorkers, which sent their stumps cart wheeling. Brief resistance offered by the last wicket pair of Satish and Krishna was ended when Nandakishore trapped Satish LBW to end the NCA innings. Brilliant figures of 3/11 from Bimal and 4/14 from Rohan to restrict a mighty NCA batting line-up to 89 runs. Arun top scored for NCA with 25 runs and Extras was the second highest scorer with 19.

Bimal and Kalyan opened for NCG against charged up NCA bowlers Aniket and Srinivas. An aggressive looking Bimal was the first wicket to fall, caught by Jaideep off Srinivas. Kalyan did not last long against a barricade of short deliveries from Aniket and was caught at point by Jaideep, tilting the match slightly in NCA's favour. Siraj joined Kishore at the crease and survived a close LBW shout off Srinivas. Both batsmen realized that keeping wickets was crucial as they were chasing a relatively smaller total. Kishore took some chances and tried to be aggressive against Aniket. An unusually cautious innings from Siraj and a solid effort from Kishore got NCA to 33/2 at the first break. Immediately after the break, Siraj fell to a dubious LBW decision off Jaideep. Umpire failed to pick up a clear inside edge onto the pads.

Sunny joined Kishore at the crease and swung the match in NCG's favour with some nerveless batting. Though Jaideep bowled well to induce a couple of edges and keep the proceedings tight, the experienced batsmen rotated the strike brilliantly and took the match away from NCA. Kishore had some luck going in his favour with Krishna dropping a sitter at cover and makeshift wicket keeper Srimanth putting down an edge off Jaideep. NCA tried everything to break the partnership bringing Arun, Srimanth and Sujay into the attack to get the breakthrough. The desperation showed when fast bowler Srimanth even turned to bowling off-spinners at the end, in search of a wicket. Barring a rare lapse in concentration from Sunny, as he mishit a Sujay delivery to Akshay(who dropped a sitter), NCG cruised to victory. A thumping win for NCG by 7 wickets with 3.3 overs to spare. Kishore was unbeaten on 33 and Sunny remained unbeaten on 24 to complement his outstanding contribution in the field. Jaideep was the pick of the bowlers for NCA with 1/8 off his 5 overs.

It was a brilliant team victory for NCG with everyone contributing to the success. The bowlers were outstanding with stellar performances from Bimal and Rohan to restrict NCA to a small total. Fielding was electric, Sunny leading the way with two brilliant catches. Composed batting from Kishore and Sunny taking NCG to the total with ease, leaving NCA bemused.

Rohan was awarded Man of the Match for his brilliant bowling. A proud moment for the Maratha lad with his parents watching him from the pavilion.
